Fire at oil factory in Duttapukur, none injured
Kolkata: Fire broke out at an edible oil manufacturing factory on Sunday morning at Kadambagachhi in Duttapukur.
Firefighters were able control the inferno almost after five hours. No one was injured in the incident.
According to local residents, on Sunday around 10 am, some workers of the factory noticed smoke coming out of a static oil tanker inside the factory.
Immediately, other staff members were alerted. Duttapukur police station and Barasat fire brigade were informed.
Primarily, three firetenders were pressed into action. But as the impact of the fire was intensified eight more fire tenders were sent pressed into service.
Firefighters faced trouble as the road in front of the factory was very narrow. As a result, only a few fire tenders could reach the factory. Later, it was decided that water from the remaining fire tenders will be used to fill the fire tenders which was at the site. Sources informed that as the fire was spreading, firefighters used foam to control the fire within a certain area.
Local residents alleged that there was no fire safety and management system installed in the factory.
Also, the factory has being creating pollution in the area. Staff members of the factory also expressed that they are not aware of any firefighting system installed there.
The fire was controlled by 3pm. Later, cooling process went on for almost two hours to ensure that the fire has been doused completely.
According to sources, fire brigade officials may visit the factory to check whether it had all the necessary permissions to run such a factory within the residential area.
Also it will be checked whether the factory owner had obtained license from the fire brigade or not. If any irregularities found, then fire brigade may lodge a complaint against the factory owner.
