Fellow passenger stabs another inside Guwahati-Bangalore Express

Kolkata: A passenger was stabbed inside the Guwahati-Bangalore Express by a fellow passenger when the train departed Rampurhat station on Saturday night.
The incident has once again put a question mark on the security of the passengers travelling in long distance trains. As the train left Rampurhat station, some of the passengers travelling in an A/C compartment found that the victim, Ranjit Pathak was lying on the floor beside the toilet with a knife in his abdomen. He was wreathing in pain.
The passengers travelling in the train informed the security personnel who were escorting the train. They rushed to the spot and rescued him. Pathak is a resident of Kaitomapara area in Assam. As the train reached Malda, the victim was immediately rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital where he had undergone a surgery on late Saturday night.
The doctors removed the knife but his condition is stated to be serious.
After starting an investigation, railway police have held two persons in this connection so far. They are being interrogated. Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the attack. They suspect that a quarrel might have broken out between the victim and the accused and this had eventually led to the incident.
It triggered tension among the passengers travelling in the compartment. Police are yet to divulge the identity of the two persons who have been held for interrogation. They have started a detailed probe in this regard.
In another incident, two passengers travelling in Haldibari were injured after some people hurled stones at them when the train was moving slowly near a tunnel after leaving New Jalpaiguri station.
Two passengers, residents of Haldibari suffered injuries in their head. The Train was detained at the Belakoba station for half an hour after the injured passengers were given fist aid.
