Father, stepmother poison girl over property dispute, alleges real mom

A girl was poisoned to death allegedly by her father and stepmother over some property-related issues. Police have already arrested the accused father, Noor Alam Seikh while the stepmother, Rejina Bibi has been absconding since the incident had taken place.

Police said that Noor got married to one Jennahtunnesha nine years ago. Around eight months ago, Noor divorced his first wife after she delivered a second daughter. Later on, Noor married Rejina Bibi.

Though Noor kept his elder daughter, Nurjahan Khatun, from his first wife with him, Rejina, Noor's second wife had given birth to a boy child three months ago following which a quarrel broke out between the couple over the distribution of property. Rejina asked his husband to gift all his property to her son which Noor had refused to accept. This had led to a quarrel between the two.

Police said that Nurjahan consumed poison and she was later declared brought dead by the doctors after being taken to the Kandi sub-divisional hospital. Nurjahan's mother, Jennahtunnesha alleged that her former husband and his new wife conspired to kill her so that the son from the second wife could inherit all the property.

Noor's former wife alleged that the victim's father and her stepmother had spiked her food with poison on Wednesday night. She also lodged a complaint at Jhargram police station against her former husband and his wife on the basis of which police arrested the husband.

The second wife has, however, been absconding since the incident took place. Police are interrogating the accused father who pleaded his innocence in connection with the incident. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.
