Malda police on Monday arrested a father-son duo who had killed a quack doctor from Kaliachak after accusing him of carrying out wrong treatment that eventually led to the death of a housewife.
Nijamuddin Seikh, a resident of Mosimpur village under Kaliachak police station and his son Babar Ali stormed into the chamber of the victim, Obaidullah Seikh (28), a quack doctor from the area on Saturday night and stabbed him with a chopper. To ensure death, one of the accused shot at him on the chest. Some of the patients who were waiting at the chamber did not dare to raise a voice as the accused were carrying arms.
The father-son duo fled from the spot immediately after the incident. After hearing the gunshot, the local residents rushed to the spot and took the victim to the Malda Medical College and Hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.
Following the incident, the local residents on Sunday ransacked the house of the accused and set it on fire. Police said that the accused committed the crime a day after Tajmira died at a hospital following a prolonged suffering. The accused had been absconding since the crime had take place. On specific information, police raided a relative's house of the accused in the same district and arrested them from there. It has been learnt that the duo has already admitted to their guilt.
In the police interrogation, the accused claimed that they killed the quack as he was responsible for the death of the woman. Police also came to know in the interrogation that Tajmira had been undergoing treatment under the
victim for the past few months. It has also been learnt that the victim a few months ago told the patient's husband to take her to the Malda Medical College and
Hospital as she developed some serious complications. But despite
repeated requests, the patient was not taken to the hospital.
When she was finally admitted to the hospital on Friday, there was
hardly any chance for the doctors to revive the patient.
