Family members blame private hospital for death of 10-month-old

Kolkata: Chaos erupted at Good Samaritan Hospital on Friday morning, after the family members of a 10-month-old girl who died due to alleged medical negligence, staged a protest demonstration.

They alleged that the patient, Rishani Giri, was declared dead by the hospital authorities in the morning, following which the trouble broke out.

The family members of the girl said that she was taken to the hospital after she complained of fever and respiratory distress.

The patient was admitted to the hospital after a primary check-up. As her health condition later deteriorated, she had been kept under ventilation for the past few days.

The family members of the victim alleged that no specialist doctors had attended to the patient during the entire period of treatment. After being informed, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

They have sought all the documents relating to the treatment of the girl. The family members of Giri have also lodged a complaint with the local police station, accusing the private hospital authorities for the incident.

The private hospital authorities have, however, denied the allegation of medical negligence. The family members of the girl lifted the agitation

after the police assured them that the matter would be looked into.
