Family alleges negligence after patient's death at Contai
Kolkata: Tension ran high at Contai Sub-divisional hospital in East Midnapore on Tuesday morning following the death of a woman whose family members have brought charges of negligence against the hospital.
The family members of the victim staged a demonstration inside the hospital campus accusing doctors of glaring medical negligence that led to the death of the woman. A large contingent of police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The hospital authorities have ordered a probe into the death of
the victim.
Nanda Gopal Das, a resident of Marishda area of the district, took his wife Laxmi Rani Das to Contai Sub-divisional hospital on Monday afternoon after she complained of labour pain. The victim was immediately admitted to the hospital. In the evening, the patient was taken to the operation theater, where she gave birth to a baby girl.
The family members of the victim alleged that after giving birth to the infant girl, the woman started bleeding. The nurses who were attending the patient reported the matter to the doctor, but he did not visit the patient. Despite repeated pleas, the doctor did not attend the patient as a result of which the victim died in the hospital on late Monday night.
When her family members went to the hospital on Tuesday morning they were informed about the incident by the hospital authorities. They also alleged that the hospital authorities made them sign on a paper.
This triggered chaos leading the family members to stage a demonstration inside the hospital campus. They demanded action against the doctor whose negligence might have led to the death of the patient. Had she been given proper treatment on time, the patient would not have died, her family members claimed.
The family members later lodged a complaint with the hospital authorities on the basis of which a probe has been initiated. They also lodged a complaint at the local police station in this regard. The hospital authorities told the family members of the victim steps would be taken against those
found guilty.
