Fake notes suspected to have been printed in Bauria

The fake currency which was recovered from Watgunge area on Thursday is suspected to have been printed at Bauria in Howrah.

The police arrested five persons and came to know all of their antecedents. The accused - Manuar Molla alias Ujjal, Abul Kalam Azad alias Suraj, Sheikh Eklash Ahmed, Balai Mondal and Syed Rehan - were produced before the Alipore Court on Friday where they were remanded in the custody of the police till March 10.

Police came to know that the accused Manuar used to sell stolen old coins and then got involved into the business of distributing counterfeit notes. He was the kingpin of the racket and had involved other four in committing the crime.

Neighbours of Sheikh Eklash Ahmed was astonished knowing that he was involved in such a crime as he is from a well to do family. His father owns a motorbike showroom. The local people had never seen him moving or wasting time instead of doing his own job.

Syed Rehan was a tailor and he often used to go to other states saying to his family members that he had to go deliver garments that he sewed. Police suspect that he was the person to bring counterfeit currency with the help of Manuar. Later, three others had joined their team to easily distribute the money in Kolkata's market.

The police would take all of them to certain places where the accused had visited recently and the police are interrogating them to know the names of other members of the racket.
