Fake DRDO scientist storms school with toy gun, held
Kolkata: A youth posing as a scientist from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) stormed into an English medium private school at Konnagar in Hooghly on Friday morning with a toy gun stashed in his waist and allegedly threatened school authorities to hand over the hard disk of the school computer.
The accused, Arijit Mete, accompanied by one of his associates, went straight to the room of the school principal and showed some fake arrest warrants.
Introducing himself as DRDO scientist, he told school officials that he was carrying arrest warrants against three teachers and a non-teaching staff who he claimed had been involved in passing on important data.
He also produced the fake arrest warrants before the school principal.
The youth also told the principal that he would arrest four persons on the charges of divulging crucial information related to school.
The principal was taken aback by the startling claims by the accused. He, was however, quick enough to realise that there must be something wrong.
He tried to calm the accused and his companion.
The principal also kept the accused occupied with a conversation and called up the local police station.
Mete asked the school principal to sack the computer teacher, who claimed to have colluded with others whose names featured in the fake warrants.
Mete alleged that all of them were involved in passing on important data.
He also demanded that the hard disc of the computer should be handed over to him. After being informed policemen from Uttarpara PS reached the school and arrested the fake DRDO scientist and his associate.
The police came to know that Mete used to teach mathematics in the school nearly two years ago.
Later, he joined a nursery school at Chanditala in the same district.
In the face of interrogation, the accused told investigating officers that he had developed a rivalry with Md Nasim, a non-teaching staff of the school.
To take revenge from
him, the accused hatched the entire plot and prepared some fake papers and ID card to establish himself as a DRDO scientist.
The incident caused panic among the teachers and students. It was learnt that two teachers resigned after the incident.
Investigating officers are also examining the CCTV footages of the school. A detailed probe is on.
