Everyone has to come together to fight against social menace like superstitions to avoid recurrence of incidents as it had happened in Purulia in which a four-year-old girl was killed, said Partha Chatterjee, the state Parliamentary Affairs minister.
He said this on Friday in the state Assembly in reply to a question of MLA from Ranaghat Dakshin Assembly constituency Rama Biswas in connection with the Purulia incident.
He said that such incidents cannot be stopped singlehandedly. Instead, everybody have to come together to
fight against the menace so that society can get rid of such menaces.
The number of such incidents has come down in the past few years but there is no space for contentment. "Even one such incident makes us worried. So I would like to urge everyone to take necessary steps in their respective areas," he said adding that it is our first priority to fight for the respect of women.
"We have to keep a watch in all strata of society in villages, semi-urban areas as well as in the urban parts of the state," he said, adding that necessary steps have also been taken to create awareness among people. Awareness camps are also being organised in schools and colleges.
Maintaining that it is not right to malign the state government for every incident, Chatterjee said: "The state government and police are looking into the incident very seriously. Both, Sanatan Goswami, alias Sanatan Thakur and Mongala Goswami have been arrested. They were booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO Act."
Chatterjee has also raised concerns over the violent acts that are being telecast or shown in mass media.
It may be recalled that a three-year-old girl was killed by needles being pushed into her body at Nadiara in Purulia district. The victim's mother Mongala was also involved in the crime.
