ER women officials give sanitary napkins for free

Kolkata: Senior officials of the Eastern Railway Women's Welfare Organization (ERWWO) distributed sanitary napkins free of cost among the slum dwellers near Khidderpore area

on Thursday.

It was a part of ERWWCO's project 'Dastak', which primarily involves production of eco-friendly sanitary napkins to meet one of the vital needs of women. Bimala Rao, president of ERWWCO distributed sanitary napkins to 100 families of the slum.

One of the main objectives of the programme is to create a sense of hygiene among women belonging to the underprivileged section of the community and help them avoid health hazards. ERWWO has decided to continue sanitary napkins distribution camps for such women at regular intervals and also create awareness on hygiene-related issues. It may be mentioned that ERWWO has also installed sanitary napkin vending machines at major stations including Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol, Malda and Fairlie Place, the Zonal headquarter and in all divisional headquarters as well.

Eastern Railway on Thursday also observed 63 "Mahaparinirvan Diwas", on the occasion of Dr B R Ambedkar's death anniversary at its headquarters — Fairlie Place in the city. Harindra Rao, General Manager, Eastern Railway offered floral tribute to a portrait of Ambedkar on behalf of the entire Eastern Railway family.

He said Ambedkar helped the nation by presenting the Constitution of India and will be remembered for ever. He also mentioned about the sacrifices made by Baba Saheb for the upliftment of the downtrodden people which will always remain in people's heart.

"Mahaparinirvan Diwas" was also observed at different stations like Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol and also in Malda Divisions and three workshops of Eastern Railway.
