ER urges employees to quit tobacco in awareness programme

Kolkata: Eastern Railway's medical department has undertaken a health promotion and education programme, urging its employees to give up the use of tobacco.

An awareness programme was conducted at Barddhaman Diesel Shed for counselling the employees, to leaving the habit of all forms of tobacco consumption.

The awareness programme was conducted by the medical department of ER under the guidance of Dr Anupam Sett, Dr Rupa Mukherjee, Dr S Roy and Dr Anup Bhattacharjee.

All the employees of the Barddhaman Diesel Shed participated in the awareness programme and took the oath to not use any form of tobacco. The success of the awareness building programme leads to the declaration of Barddhaman Diesel Shed as a Tobacco-Free Zone. The campaign for not using tobacco included various modes of counselling like information, education and communication. ER's doctors delivered speeches on the menace of tobacco use.

PowerPoint presentations and interactive sessions were also conducted. Members of ER's Scouts & Guides also took part in the campaign. A First Aid Training Camp was also organised.

ER will also lunch such campaigns in all the offices, workshops, sheds etc. under its jurisdiction.
