Kolkata: State Power minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay has ordered a probe into Tuesday's incident in which an office of the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) in South 24-Parganas' Diamond Harbour was ransacked and two vehicles set on fire by an irate mob.
The minister has also sought a detailed report from the WBSEDCL chairman within 72 hours on the incident. Some of the villagers of Sarisa went on rampage ransacking the electricity office and attacked the employees following the death of a person who reportedly died after being electrocuted while trying to remove a hooking.
The WBSEDCL had been carrying out drives to check power thefts in the area for the past few days. The work which was going on in some parts to check hooking has been stalled due to the incident. The employees of the electricity office in the district are yet to overcome the trauma they faced on Tuesday when hundreds of villagers attacked them and broke the windowpanes of the office.
