Elderly man shot dead in Bandel

An 84-year-old man was shot dead at Bandel in Hooghly late on Friday night. Police said the victim Brijesh Jha was a local resident and the incident took place when he was standing all alone just outside his house after having his dinner. Two unidentified youth came on a motorbike in front of the victim's house.

The accused who was sitting pillion of the motorbike opened fire at Brijesh. He received bullet injuries on his chest. Lolcal people and his family members came out of their houses hearing his cries for help and took him to hospital where he was declared brought dead. The incident led to tension in the area. Local people have demanded immediate arrest of the accused. The police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident but suspect that an old rivalry might have led to the incident.
