Elderly man murdered over 'property row' in South 24-Parganas
Kolkata: An elderly man from South 24-Parganas' Jibantala was allegedly murdered because of a property dispute.
The incident triggered tension among local residents at Homrapolta village on Monday morning.
Police recovered the body from his house and later sent it for postmortem examination. The victim has been identified as Banamali Halder (65). The family members of the victim registered a complaint at the local police station but the police are yet to make any arrest in this connection so far. The victim's son and wife told the police that there had been a family dispute over the possession of some property. They alleged that the victim's younger brother and his son killed Halder.
It was alleged that the accused strangulated the victim when he was alone in the house. The victim's son later found his father lying on the floor with strangulation marks. Local residents rushed to the spot after being informed. The family members also informed the police. The cops recovered the body. They are waiting for the post-mortem examination.
The police are conducting raids to nab the culprits who have been absconding since the incident took place. A detailed probe has been initiated in this regard.
