Elderly man hurt after buses collide with each other

Kolkata: An elderly person suffered serious injuries on his hand and ears after fell down on the road after a bus collided with another bus in which the person was travelling on Rasbehiari Avenue near Gariahat on Friday morning.

The injured person identified as Samir Pal, resident of Dhakuria and a tailor by

profession was rushed to a private hospital in Dhakuria from where he was shifted to another private hospital at Panchasayar by his family members. According to sources, Pal was travelling

in a crowded bus from route 212 standing on the footboard of the bus.

It is alleged that the driver of the bus from route 212 was competing with another bus from route 3C/2. While, both buses were moving along the Rashbehari Avenue, driver of the bus from route 212 applied a sudden brake and tried to block the way of 3C/2. But, the driver of bus from route 3C/2 tried to overtake the bus 212 from its left. Pal, who was standing on the footboard of 212, lost control and fell on the road. At the same time 3C/2 bus overtook the bus from 212 route. While doing so Pal fell in the middle of two buses and his ears and one hand were injured. Hearing him scream, passengers from both the buses forced the drivers to stop the bus immediately. Pal was rushed to a private hospital in Dhakuria by traffic police personnel where he was given first aid.

Also, his family members were informed.

After his family members reached the hospital, they decided to shift Pal to another private hospital in Panchasayar on Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass. However, sources claimed that condition of his both ears was badly damaged and need an emergency surgery to fix it. Meanwhile, passengers of both the buses detained the drivers and later handed him over to the police. Both the drivers have been arrested and the buses were seized.
