Elaborate security measures for Muharram
Kolkata: The state government has directed the district administration to take all necessary steps to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during Muharram.
The matter has also been discussed in the meeting of the Group of Ministers held at Nabanna on Thursday.
Partha Chatterjee, the state Parliamentary Affairs minister, said: "Administration in both state and district level has been directed to take necessary measures so that peace is maintained all over the state during Muharram."
"There is a section of people who keeps instigating (to disturb the peace and stability in the state). The officials have been directed to be vigilant in this connection so that peace is maintained," Chatterjee said, adding that necessary instructions have also been given to the officials in the district level so that any attempt to create trouble can be thwarted. The ministers are also keeping a watch at the situation.
Senior police officers were in the meeting that was held at Nabanna on Thursday. Sources said that like any other programme, additional policemen will be deployed to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. The policemen will be deployed at various places to help people.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier said that Bengal has a rich tradition of peace and harmony and at the same time she took various steps to ensure maintenance of the same. She had also urged people not to pay heed to any rumour. She had also urged common people to inform the police if they find any rumour monger attempting to create a troublesome situation by spreading "fake information". She had also urged people to cross-check any information that they get on social media before forwarding it as in most cases "fake information" is getting circulated.
