Education sector reaps rich rewards from BGBS, CU signs 10 MoUs
Kolkata: The education sector in the state emerged as a major gainer in the Bengal Global Business Summit, with Calcutta University alone signing 10 MoUs with foreign institutes to boost academic and research activities.
Jadavpur University and Presidency University also signed an MoU each at the venue of BGBS. State Finance and Industry minister Amit Mitra said that a total of 86 MoUs were signed at the two day mega event.
The first MoU signed by CU was with South Asia Institute School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London for collaboration in the field of South Asian Studies. The second one was with Leeds Beckett Business School UK in the area of business management, with the third with the University of Strathclyde, UK for collaborating in the area of Urban Development, the fourth with University of Maryland USA in the domain of Mathematics and Statistics and the fifth with the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA in quantum computing.
The other five MoUs include a Statement of Intent with California State University, USA on Asian Studies, with Concordia University Canada in Mathematics and Statistics, with Yamaguchi University Japan in Economics & Business Management, with ASEAN Studies Centre, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand in the field of Asian Studies, with Asia Centre of Malaysia & Thailand for Social Science & International Relations. "Our MoUs are mainly focused in the area of Mathematics and Statistics and also in the field of South Asian Studies," a senior academic official of CU said.
Meanwhile, Jadavpur University signed an MoU with Silesian University of Technology, Gilvice while Presidency University signed one with The Trustee of Indiana University, USA. All three universities in the state were represented by their respective vice-chancellors.
Another important MoU that was signed at the stage of BGBS was that of Netaji Institute of Asian Studies and Warsaw University.
