Educated youth offered cleaning staff job at private firm, kills self

With the job scenario being grim all over the country, topped with increased competition, finding a job these days is tough but being fairly educated and being offered the job of a cleaning staff is unacceptable and derogatory and at times unbearable.
After having completed his graduation and B.Ed degree, a youth committed suicide after he was offered a job as a house cleaning staff by a private company.
The incident occurred at Natunpally area of Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas on late Tuesday night. The family members of the victim told the police that he had taken the drastic step after he had been suffering from depression.
Police said that the victim, Atanu Mistri, had been toiling hard to find a job for quite a long time after completing his bachelors in English honours.
He also completed his BEd as he was interested in teaching. But the youth failed to secure a government job and due to this, he had been under tremendous depression.
After failing to get a job in the government sector, the victim decided to go for walk in interviews in private companies. Couple of days ago he called at a number after seeing an advertisement and he was asked to appear for an interview.
On Tuesday he went to the office for an interview. During the interview, the youth was offered a job of cleaning the office room. The victim readily denied the offer and told the interviewers that he is fit for some better job as he has completed English honours and also has a BEd degree.
But the interviewers reportedly told him that there were vacant posts for cleaning of rooms. The youth, however, told the interviewers that he would not able to do such a job and left the office.
He returned home in the evening with a heavy hurt and was visibly shattered. After his return home when the family members of the victim asked him what happened in the interview, he remained silent. When he was asked to take some food, the youth told his mother that he was not interested in taking food. He also said that he would never get a job. The victim told his parents that he would listen to some music and went to his room and locked it from inside.
The victim's younger brother knocked on the door few minutes later but the victim did not respond. As he did not open the door following repeated calls, the family members broke open the door to find the victim hanging from the ceiling fan. After being informed, the police reached the spot and recovered the body and it was later sent for post-mortem.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the youth might have committed suicide due to depression. Police have started a probe.
