ECL worker found with throat slit in Burdwan

Mystery shrouds the death of an Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) worker whose body was found near a pond at Andal in Burdwan with his throat slit on Tuesday morning. The incident triggered tension among the local residents.
Police said that the victim Ramcharan Harijan (45) was a resident of Siduli area of Andal. It was learnt that the victim was a worker of the ECL. Some of the local residents on Tuesday morning found the body of the victim lying near a pond near Jambad colliery area. The victim's throat was slit and he had several injury marks on his body.
Police said that the nature of injuries suggest that the victim was slashed with a sharp weapon on various parts of his body. After being informed, police reached the spot and sent the body to a nearby hospital where the victim was declared brought dead. The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination. Police said the victim had left his house on Monday night but did not return home. The local residents on early Tuesday morning found the body with multiple injury marks on his body. The victim's body was lying with his head down. There were several stabbing marks on the back of the victim as well. After being informed by the local people, the police recovered the body.
A senior police officer under Durgapur Commissionarate said that the preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was murdered. The reason behind the murder is still not clear to the police. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that an old rivalry could have led to the incident. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident. They were interrogating some people in this connection so far. Raids are being conducted to nab the culprits.
