Dum Dum Utsav to be held from January 2-9 at Gorabazar

Kolkata: Dum Dum Utsav will be held between January 2-9 at Lichu Bagan ground of Gorabazar. Bratya Basu, minister-in-charge for Science, Technology & Biotechnology department will inaugurate the programme, while MP Sougata Roy will be the special guest and state Food and Supplies minister Jyotipriya Mallick the chief guest.

Dum Dum Municipality Chairman, Harinder Singh said cultural programmes would be held where many Bollywood singers would perform. The main purpose of the initiative is to ensure that locals can listen to the songs of famous artists from Bombay as well as from the state. A flower show would also be organised. "Earlier, the programme had been concentrated mainly on the flower show. From this year, we are organising a grand event where hundreds of locals will take part. Various other cultural programmes would also be held during the period," Singh said. The top Bollywood singers including Shreya Ghoshal, Sudesh Bhosle and Akriti Kakar will enthrall the audience with their songs. Many other singers like Aditi Munshi, Srabani Sen, Aritra Dasgupta and Anupama Deshpande will take part in the programme.

The programme will start on January 2 with a procession. Flower exhibition would be held from 2-5 January. A drawing competition would be taken place on January 3 and 4 where local students are expected to take part. Cooking competition would be held on January 6, while a walk competition will take place on January 7 for elderly citizens. Famous restaurants from the city will put up their stalls and there will joy rides for children.
