Drunk fashion designer mows down pedestrian
Kolkata: A pedestrian was killed in a road accident on Sunday morning, after a car ran him over near Science City crossing on Park Circus Connector. Later, police intervened and arrested a female fashion designer identified as Aditi Agarwal, who was driving the car.
Sources informed that on Sunday morning at around 6:30 am, a person identified as Harimohan Ram (40) was waiting for a bus near Science City crossing on Park Circus Connector to reach his workplace, somewhere in the Leather Complex area.
All of a sudden, Agarwal drove her car from Park Circus direction rashly and hit him. As a result, Ram fell on the road. Some pedestrians saw the incident and informed the traffic police officers at Science City crossing about the same.
Police personnel then went to the accident spot and asked Agarwal to step out of the vehicle. When Agarwal tried to speak, the officers understood that she was heavily drunk and was not in a condition to either speak or stand.
According to some pedestrians, the vehicle was running at a very high speed. Later, police managed to take her to the Pragati Maidan police station and also towed the vehicle away.
Meanwhile, with the help of people gathered there, police rushed Ram to Chittaranjan National Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police sources informed that as per the statement of Agarwal, she was coming from a party which was organised somewhere in South Kolkata. She dropped some of her friends on her way home. Later, a case was initiated against Agarwal under relevant non-bailable sections of law and arrested her. The vehicle, bearing registration number WB 08F 3438, was seized.
