Driver held for stealing Rs 25 lakh from office

Kolkata: A man was recently arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 25 lakh from an office at Old China Bazar Street. Cops raided his place and recovered Rs 21 lakh from his possession. He has been remanded to police custody till April 1.

According to the police, on March 16, employees of the office on Old China Bazar Street found that a huge sum was missing from an iron vault inside the office.

They calculated and found that about Rs 25 lakh was missing from the office.

Later, an employee lodged a complaint at the Burrabazar police station. During preliminary questioning, a few employees from the office suspected a driver, who worked at the same office, could be behind the theft.

While probing the case, police detained the suspected person identified as Kranti Singh from Andul in Howrah. During interrogation, Singh tried to avoid the questions asked by investigating officers.

However, when he was grilled further, Singh reportedly confessed to the crime. He was arrested by the police on March 20.

When the police officers raid his place, they recovered Rs 21 lakh which was stolen from the office vault and a bunch of duplicate and master keys, which were used for committing the crime. He has been remanded to police custody till April 1 after being produced at the Bankshall Court.
