Don Bosco student comes under train

A Class IX student of Don Bosco Park Circus was killed after being run over by a sub-urban train at Park Circus station on Thursday morning.

Police said the victim, Ayobin Jana, was a resident of Behala and the incident took place when he went to take a train to return home.

A police officer said that Thursday was the last day of his final examination. He went to Park Circus railway station to take a train. When he reached the station, he found the train was about to leave the platform. The train had already started moving when the victim reached the platform.

He started running to get onto the train as he was in a hurry to return home. He jumped to step into the moving train but slipped and fell on the tracks through the little gap between the train and the platform.

He was found lying in a pool of blood when the sub-urban train from Sealdah to Majherhat in Sealdah South section left the platform. He was taken to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A pall of gloom descended on the family members when they came to know about the incident.

In another accident, two persons were killed after being hit by a sub-urban train at Liluah station in Howrah.

The victims — Uttam Majhi (27) and Raju Baul — were contractual labourers. The accident took place when they were working on the railway tracks.

Police suspect after preliminary investigation that they didn't understand that the train will be passing through platform number two and remained standing on the tracks. Police suspect that they didn't listen to the loud horn of the approaching train as they were speaking over phone.

Other contractual labourers staged a demonstration following the incident.
