Domjur murder: Cops recover axe used to cut up victim

Kolkata: Police have recovered the axe which was used to cut up Domjur bank employee Partha Chakraborty's body. Sources informed that Shaikh Samsuddin had dumped the axe in a pond beside his home. He had also dumped a mat into the same pond which was used while cutting the body of Partha.

According to the police, Partha was murdered when some women were present inside the front room of the house. But nobody heard any sound as Partha did not get a chance to react. Samsuddin had hit him on his head with a wooden object so hard that it had cracked the skull and he died instantly.

During the interrogation, Samsuddin had told the investigators where he had dumped the axe. On Monday morning, divers were assigned to fish out the axe in presence of Samsuddin. Along with the axe, the mat was also recovered which Samsuddin's father provided.

On Sunday, police recovered the backpack of Partha along with some documents from the septic tank of Samsuddin's home. But police could not trace the bicycle of Partha till Monday. Partha was murdered on Wednesday while he was out to collect loan repayment instalments from self-help groups. He reached Samsuddin's house but was taken inside from the back door. Due to this, the women sitting in the front room did not know that Partha was there.

During primary investigation, police went to Samsuddin's house for questioning but had no idea that he could have committed such a horrific crime. Later, the call details of Samsuddin led to his arrest.
