Doctor beaten up after patient's death, 2 held

Kolkata: Police have arrested two persons on the charges of beating up a doctor of Kalna Sub-divisional hospital.

They have been identified as Dilip Pal and Kumaresh Biswas.

Both are the residents of Hashpukur area of Kalna in East Burdwan.

They are being remanded to police custody after being produced before a district court.

Munmun Moitra (37) was admitted to Kalna Sub-divisional hospital on Saturday morning after she complained of chest pain.

The victim, a resident of Hashpukur area, died in the hospital on Saturday night.

The family members of the victim staged a demonstration in front of the nursing staff alleging medical

negligence.

The irate mob later beat up Dr Sushil Kumar Banik, who received injuries in the incident. The incident triggered tension among the doctors and other health workers at the hospital. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

The hospital authorities, however, said that no medical negligence was found and the patient was brought to hospital in a critical condition.

A specific complaint was lodged at the local police on the basis of which police have started a detailed probe in this regard.

Police later arrested the accused who had attacked the doctor.
