Doctor arrested after patient dies of 'cardiac arrest'

Bidhannagar Police on Tuesday arrested a doctor from Salt Lake on the charges of culpable homicide not amounting to the murder.

The police started an investigation against the doctor after the family members of a patient who died at a private hospital on the VIP Road lodged complaint with the police.

In the complaint, the family members of the victim alleged that the doctor tried to suppress the actual cause of his death. The accused Dr R K Brahma has mentioned that the patient died of cardiac arrest. The family members of the victim expressed doubt over his death as the patient was absolutely fine few minutes prior to his death.

The accused doctors suddenly declared the patient dead and the cause of the death was adjudged wrongly. The post-mortem report of the victim said that there was an injury on the death of the victim and this had led to his death. After the matter came to light, police on Tuesday

arrested the accused doctor. They have started a detailed probe into the incident. The accused doctor is being interrogated by the police.
