The internal squabble in state BJP once again came up in the light when the party's MP from Asansol Babul Supriyo denied any link with Tarun Sengupta, secretary of the IT cell in Asansol.
Sengupta was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department ( CID) on charges of spreading rumours with an intention of "creating communal disharmony." Sengupta is a BJP leader from Hirapur in West Burdwan and was arrested on Wednesday.
Babul Supriyo tweeted: "I do not know Tarun Sengupta and do not know who has made him the secretary of the IT cell in Asansol." Supriyo's tweet created a flutter in the party with veteran leaders feeling that Babul shouldn't have made such a statement. Even CID refused to buy Babul's arguments. Senior CID officers said Sengupta was there with Babul on Tuesday evening. The police are investigating under whose instruction Sengupta had uploaded the post on Facebook and also the reason behind it.
A few days ago, Sengupta had uploaded a video on Facebook followed by a post. Investigation revealed that the video was a fake one and it has no relevance with Bengal. It may be mentioned that there are attempts to spread rumours by posting still photographs of a video footage of a Bhojpuri film on social networking site and it was claimed that it to be an incident that had happened in Bengal.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had strongly reacted to it, saying that the BJP was deliberately trying to disturb communal harmony in Bengal.
Meanwhile, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said the party had instructed its workers to be active on social media and highlight misrule in Bengal. The supporters of Viswa Hindu Parishad and RSS have also been instructed to use the social media to make people aware of the "actual situation."
