BALURGHAT: Teachers' orientation programme on the state 'Right to Public Services Act' was conducted at South Dinajpur district collectorate office in Balurghat on Friday.

Around 20 teachers of different blocks including Balurghat, Hili and Kumarganj participated in it.

Mathias Lepcha, Project Officer cum Deputy Magistrate and Sanjoy Moulik, Sub-divisional Disaster Management Officer hosted the programme.

While inaugurating the programme, Sanjoy Moulik said: "West Bengal Right to Public Services Act has been implemented by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2013 with the objective to provide people a legal right to obtain public services. The state government has the motto to make eligible citizens aware about their rights to obtain the services. As the teachers are an integral part of society, we had asked them to participate." According to him, the RTPS-2013 will empower a citizen to obtain a public service legally for which he/she is eligible.

"However, the RTPS has been implemented in the state in 2013 but many are still unaware of it. The government has now targetted to create awareness through workshops and training so that the stakeholders get the benefit," he said.

Mathias Lepcha took part in a question and answer session with the teachers to motivate them. "If the teachers get motivated from the training they will try to make aware students, our future generation. This act has ensured provisions of imposing penalty which is not less than Rs 250 and does not exceed Rs 1000 against the concerned designated officer if he/she fails to provide service," he maintained

Visibly happy, the headmaster of Madhabpur High School Goutam Dutta said: "The training is very inspirational. Even I was ignorant about such an Act implemented by the state government. In the question-and answer session, examples from our day-to-day life were given by Lepcha, which is unque

and educational."
