Darjeeling/ Kolkata: Partha Chatterjee, Trinamool Congress secretary general on Wednesday accused state BJP president Dilip Ghosh of inciting violence in the Hills.
Chatterjee said: "After failing to make any dent in the plains, BJP is now trying to disturb the Hills. But they will fail in their effort."
Chatterjee maintained that at a time when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had held meetings with all the political parties in the hills and resolved the impasse and resumed development work, Ghosh is trying to stall development "by joining hands with those who had led anti-democratic movements." He said government properties worth several crores have been destroyed and the development work in the hills had been badly hit. "BJP believes that by fanning violence it will be able to come to power. But the political scenario in Bengal is different and people here do not trust those who believe in violence and secessionist politics."
Meanwhile, Dilip Ghosh, arrived to protests in the Hills on Wednesday. Posters and slogans of "BJP go back; Dilip Ghosh go back; MP Ahluwalia go back" reverberated in Kalimpong as Ghosh and BJP leaders arrived there.
Ghosh is on a two day visit of the Hills to "meet people and find out about their problems." At Dambar Chowk, the heart of Kalimpong town, Jan Andolan Party (JAP) supporters and leaders demonstrated against BJP.
"Aren't they ashamed to come to the Hills now? Where was the BJP when there was 104 days of bandh and unrest and people were dying? Where was our MP SS Ahluwalia? Why have they come now?" questioned Harka Bahadur Chettri, President, JAP.
JAP demanded that BJP give up their dual policy and make their stand clear on Gorkhaland. "Will you give up 42 MP seats of Bengal for a single MP from Darjeeling?" was JAPs question to the BJP.
While Ghosh was attending Dussehra Milan Samaraho at Marwari Palace in 10th Mile, Kalimpong there was demonstration at the gates.
"Leaders like Ghosh and the BJP have been supporting the violent agitation of the Hills. They are back in the Hills to create unrest. Let the BJP come out on their stand on the division of
Bengal, whether they want it or not? Whenever the state looks for accounts there is violent agitation in the Hills" claimed TMC leader and West Bengal Tourism Minister Goutam Deb.
