Digital Parcel Locker service launched in city
Kolkata: The West Bengal Circle of India Post launched the Digital Parcel Locker service in the city on Thursday.
"There are two reasons due to which we have started the new Digital Parcel Locker service. Firstly, most of the time the members of nuclear families do not stay at home at the time of receiving parcels and the postman has to return. Secondly, this is an era of e-commerce. The service is free for our customers. The services will be available round-the-clock," said Gautam Bhattacharya, chief postmaster general, West Bengal, after inaugurating the digitally-enabled kiosks at Nabadiganta IT Post Office in Salt Lake Sector V.
Amitabh Singh, postmaster general (Kolkata) and Debashis Sen, chairman and managing director of West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation, were also present on the occasion. "The pilot services are now available in two post offices – the Nabadiganta IT Post Office in Salt Lake Sector V and New Town Action Area I post office. A person can collect his parcel even after office hours during the night. The Digital Parcel Locker kiosk is situated outside the post office premises and it is open 24X7," pointed out Bhattacharya.
