Didi ke Bolo turns saviour for 9 Jangalmahal girls
Kolkata: The Didi ke Bolo initiative became a saviour for nine girls, who were denied admission in a school at Jangalmahal. The girls had applied to get admission in Class IX of Salboni Nichumanjari Balika High School, but failed to secure the same.
Finally, with the help of a local school teacher, they contacted the Didi ke Bolo helpline and also informed the matter to the grievance cell of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Steps were taken immediately after the matter was informed and necessary directions were given to the district authorities to ensure admission of the girls in the school.
Initially, they were denied admission in the school as no more seats were available in the batch, with 100 students admitted in each section of Class IX. They had applied to the school to get admission in Class IX after passing out from different junior high schools in the area.
Initially, the matter was taken up with the district authorities, but they failed to offer any help. Finally, they approached the Didi ke Bolo helpline, with the help of local primary school teacher Tanmoy Singha.
On Thursday, the district authorities directed the school to ensure that the girls get admission to continue with their studies. After receiving the direction, the school authorities have asked the girls to visit the school on Saturday for admission.
The girls have expressed gratitude towards the Chief Minister. This comes at a time when Banerjee has taken several steps to check the dropout rate in schools.
Kanyashree Prakalpa was one of the dream projects of the Chief Minister, which has not only helped in bringing down the school dropout rate, but also helped girls to become self-dependent.
