Dhaka bakery attack: Another accused held

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police arrested Mohammad Idris, one of the key operators of the Jamat-Ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), from Burrabazar in North Kolkata. He is one of the accused in the Dhaka's Holey Artisan bakery terror attack.

It is learnt that the STF had conducted an operation after a tip-off was given by the Delhi Police and arrested Idris. He was taken to Delhi soon after the arrest.

Sources in the STF said that this is the first time when an accused of Holey Artisan Bakery case has been arrested from Kolkata.

Idris had entered the country through the porous Indo-Bangladesh border within a few weeks after the terror attack in the bakery. After staying for some days in districts including North and South 24 Parganas, he had left for Hyderabad.

He had been staying in Hyderabad for the past few months. But there, he had come under the scanner of the local police. In Hyderbad, he used to stay in a house posing as a mason from Murshidabad.

Suspicion of the local shopkeepers rose as being an outsider he had been staying there for months at a stretch. Moreover, he had to speak in Bengali in the local dialect of Bangladesh as he didn't know Telugu.

Within a few hours after realising that the police was keeping a watch at him, Idris left Hyderabad and came to Kolkata.

In the city he took refuge in a rented house at Burrabazar and this time again, he posed as a mason from Murshidabad.

It is learnt that the Hyderabad Police contacted the Delhi Police and gave details of the person whom they found suddenly missing. Delhi Police had confirmed that the person was none other than Idris.

Knowing that he had been facing trouble for not being able to speak any other language apart from Bengali, Delhi Police had assumed that no other place apart from Bengal could be the best place for him to hide as it is not possible right at this moment for him to sneak into Bangladesh. Thus the Kolkata Police was informed.

STF officers got a tip-off about his hideout in Burabazar and conducted a raid.
