Despite being developed, your adopted countries are worst hit: Mahua Moitra slams NRI docs
Kolkata: Continuing her attack at the NRI doctors who wrote an open letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raising concern over the fight against COVID-19 in Bengal, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, on Saturday, asked them why they were not writing to the governments of the countries they are residing at present.
In a tweet, Moitra left a set of questions for the NRI doctors stating, "Question for NRI docs. Your adopted home UK and US have worst statistics and worst handling of COVID despite developed economy. Poor government communication, no PPE and supplies, health staff at risk. Why not write such letters to UK Health Seccretary/Trump/state governors?"
Taking a dig at them, TMC MP has also answered the questions in the same tweet. She stated that it is "much easier to become heroes here, right?"
A group of NRI doctors from Bengal had written an open letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raising concern over allegedly "under testing" and data related to COVID-19 deaths in the state.
Moitra had also tweeted in this connection on Friday stating: "Eleven of 14 NRI doctors writing to West Bengal Chief Minister is in US, 2 in UK and 1 in Germany. With due respect, you choose to live practice pay taxes elsewhere. US cases 2679 per 1 million people, deaths 152 per 1 million. UK cases 2034 per 1 million, deaths 276 per one million. India 17 per 1 million, deaths 0.5 per 1 million. Suggest you get down to work in your adopted countries!"
In reply to the same, Governor Dhankhar tweeted: "Bizarre stand Mahua Moitra 'NRI docs writing to WB CM live practice pay taxes elsewhere you get down to work in your adopted countries!' Shocked! Irrational! NRI docs had in eye-opener representation flagged worrisome issues @MamataOfficial to combat COVID-19 and help West Bengal".
Moitra's tweet on Saturday came after that of the Governor in which she maintained her stand and once again attacked the NRI doctors.
