Depressed over results, Class XII student jumps into pond, dies
Kolkata: A 17-year-old girl committed suicide by jumping into a water body close to her residence on K.M Naskar Road at Ranikuthi under Netaji Nagar police station area on Friday evening.
Police recovered a suicide note that indicate that she was suffering from depression due to her unsatisfactory academic performance. The police learnt that the girl was suffering from depression as her dream of pursue a career in modeling was approved by her parents.
During the investigation, it was found that around 7.30 pm, the girl was sitting on the bank of the pond and surfing on the mobile phone. After a few minutes, she went closer to the pond and jumped into the water.
Some local residents jumped into the pond immediately but they failed to rescue her . Soon, the disaster management group was informed and after a thorough search, they fished out the girl's body. She was immediately rushed to MR Bangur Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The girl was a Class XII student of a reputed English medium school in Ranikuthi.
Her father is an employee of a nationalised bank at Kamalgazi in Garia. The police have recovered a suicide note, an identity card and her mobile phone that she had left on the bank of the pond before she took the extreme step.
The girl blamed none for her death in the suicide note. "We have started an unnatural death case. During enquiry no foul play was detected and we have not received any complaint in this regard. Arrangements have made to hold inquest and post-mortem," an officer of Netaji Nagar police station said.
