Dengue claims two victims in city
Kolkata: Two persons have died of dengue in the city in the past 24 hours. A 36-year-old woman who was admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with fever on November 11, died at the hospital on Thursday night, while a 39-year-old man died at a private hospital in Salt Lake on Friday morning.
It has been learnt that Paramita Paul (36), a resident of Parnashree, got admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital after she complained of high fever. After clinical tests the doctors found that the patient had been affected with dengue.
Her health condition deteriorated further in the past couple of days and the patient was shifted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital. She died due to cardiac arrest from dengue encephalopathy on Thursday night.
In another development, Sebabrata Saha (39), a resident of Santinagar area of Rahara in North 24-Parganas died of dengue at a private hospital in Salt Lake on Friday morning.
He was taken to the hospital on Thursday after suffering from fever for the past few days. The family members had initially contacted a local doctor. The patient was kept in the CCU since his admission as his health condition deteriorated fast.
The hospital authorities have confirmed that the patient died of cardiomyopathy and shock due to dengue. He was pronounced dead at around 7 am on Thursday.
State Health department officials believe that the prevalence of dengue will subside in two weeks as the mercury goes down.
