A high-level delegation from the National War College (NWC) of the United States will meet senior officers of the Bengal government on Wednesday. According to a state government source, the delegation will meet the Managing Director of the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) and after the scheduled meeting, they may also meet some other senior officers of state government.
However, the government has no previous knowledge about their purpose to meet the officers of the state government. The proposal came from National War College to the state government about a month ago. The government soon informed the matter to the Ministry of External Affairs. Later, the ministry gave permission for the meeting. "Yes, a delegation from National War College of United States, Washington, D C will meet the Managing Director of WBIDC on Wednesday. But we really do not know the purpose of their visit. They are coming from a very prestigious institute. They must have some constructive ideas in their mind," said a state government source. "National War College actually expressed their desire to come here. But we have to get the approval from the Ministry of External Affairs before such meeting and the ministry gave us the nod," the source further added.
The National War College of the United States is an institution in the National Defense University, founded on July 1 in 1946. It is situated in Roosevelt Hall on Fort Lesley J McNair, Washington, DC.
Graduates of the National War College include many current and former officers of the US administration. Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell, Senator John McCain, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Wesley Clark, former Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Peter Pace and Hugh Shelton; former National Security Advisor and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe James L Jones and several others. It may be recalled that the Bengal government successfully organised the third edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit in January. Several countries across the globe sent business delegations to find opportunities for investment. The location related advantages of Bengal were promoted by the government in the Summit.
