Decomposed body of woman found at Sreebhumi

Kolkata: Tension cropped up at Pallysree Colony at Sreebhumi in Lake Town over death of an elderly woman on Monday night. Local residents claimed that the deceased woman Kamala Das Burman (74) used to live with her son Subho who was mentally-ill.

On Monday night, local residents experienced a foul smell from Burman's house. When they went to the house they found Kamala was dead and the body had started decomposing.

Subho had reportedly tried to obtain a death certificate from a local doctor suspected some foul play and informed police.

During interrogation, Subho reportedly said his mother was alive on Sunday. He did not know when and how his mother died. However, police understood that Subho was not mentally stable.

Police informed Kamala's relatives and handed over Subho to them.

Kamala's neighbours said her husband used to serve in Cossipore Gun Shell Factory. After his death, Kamala used to receive family pension. Subho aged around 35 years, is an alcoholic.

Police are waiting for the autopsy report to know the exact cause of death and may consult psychiatrist to improve Subho's mental health.

It is suspected that Kamala might had died approximately 36 hours before Monday.
