An accusation of medical negligence has been brought against TRA General Hospital, a private nursing home at Park Circus, by the family members of a patient who died at the hospital on Thursday morning.
The victim Chhottu Singha (30), a resident of a Bhagabangola in Murshidabad who had been admitted to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries following a road accident died in the hospital on Thursday. The family members of the victim lodged a complaint in the local police station following which the police started a probe.
The members of the deceased's family said that the hospital authorities had announced a package of Rs 85,000 for his treatment. They claimed that they had paid the amount to the hospital. Later, the hospital authorities had again demanded Rs 65,000 for his treatment.
The family members of Chhottu said that the patient had been kept under ventilation for the last few days.
They claimed that when they visited the victim in the morning during visiting hours, the patient had waved at them.
The family members of the victim brought a serious charge against the hospital claiming that they had removed the ventilation system which had led to his death.
They also alleged that the hospital authorities never briefed them about the condition of the patient.
After receiving a complaint from the family members of the victim, police went to the private hospital to probe into the incident.
The victim had met with a road accident while riding on his motorcycle at Bhagabangola on December 18 following which the patient was taken to a private hospital in Murshidabad.
He was later shifted to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated. As the family members of the victim did not find any signs of improvement, they brought the patient to the city. It has been alleged that ambulance that brought the patient to the city told the victim's family to take the patient to this private health establishment.
