With over 8 lakh students appearing for the higher secondary examination on Wednesday, the first day of the exam has ended peacefully. Starting a month later from the usual time this year, the examination will end on March 29.
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has arranged strong security measures and alerted the district as well as the Kolkata police about instances of slipping in chits inside the centers during the examination.
As these incidents are quite frequent during the higher secondary examination, the council has instructed the police to arrest people who supply chits from outside. It has also alerted the centre invigilators to take stringent action against students caught in 'hall collection.'
Meanwhile, CESC has made special arrangements to ensure steady power supply to all the examination centres. "Five major examinations, including Madhyamik and Higher Secondary, are scheduled during this examination season and we do not foresee any shortage of supply, although demand is likely to go up to 1785 Mega Watt this month," a CESC spokesperson said. "Amongst several steps taken by CESC to avoid interruptions, are replacement of old distribution boxes with modern ones and systematic maintenance of overhead
lines. CESC has also undertaken condition monitoring of plants and equipment," the spokesperson added.
