Darjeeling witnesses record no. of snowfall days this winter

Siliguri: Darjeeling town witnessed snowfall on Friday with promises of a white Saraswati Puja. There was heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Tiger Hill and Chatakpur. Shattering all previous records, this was the seventh day of snowfall this winter. In the Kalimpong district, it snowed in Rishyap and Lava. The plains of Darjeeling witnessed rainfall throughout the day.
It snowed heavily in Tiger Hill, Chatakpur and Ghoom with temperatures hovering below 0 degrees Celsius. The whole area was covered in a white blanket of snow as tourist and locals enjoyed outdoors.

Darjeeling recorded 1 degrees C on Friday morning while the temperature in the main marketplace was 3 degrees C in the afternoon. The town wore a deserted look with people preferring to stay indoors to escape the biting cold and chilly winds.
Kalimpong recorded a minimum temperature of 7 degrees while in Siliguri it was 10.8 degrees C. "Due to approaching of Western Disturbances over Sikkim and adjoining areas and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, rain and snow is expected," stated an IMD report.
