Dacoits loot jewellery worth Rs 20L from Gariahat shop

An incident of dacoity in a jewellery shop took place at Gariahat in broad daylight on Thursday.
Police said after preliminary investigation that around four miscreants had entered the jewellery shop posing as prospective customers.
There were three employees including a woman in the shop when the miscreants had entered. There was no other customer in the shop then and it made the task of the miscreants easier.
They asked the employees to take out all the jewelleries from the vaults at gunpoint. The miscreants fled with jewellery worth around Rs 20 lakh and the employees failed to attract local people in the area apprehending that they might get attacked.
Later, an employee contacted the owner of the jewellery shop Sushanta Roy, who went to the spot and later lodged a complaint with the police.
The police went to the spot and collected samples. A police officer said that someone known to the shop owner was behind the crime as they were well aware that when was the right time to raid the shop.
The police have taken statements of some of the local people who had witnessed the incident. The police have also collected video clippings of the CCTV footages. Police suspect that they had come in a car that they had parked somewhere near the shop. They had fled in the same car. In a bid to identify the registration number of the car, the police have also collected video footages of some CCTV cameras at intersections of roads in the vicinity.
