Cyclist arrested for molesting girl in Rajarhat

Kolkata: A person was arrested by Rajarhat police station for allegedly molesting a young woman. After committing the crime, he tried to fled. Locals chased him and detained.

Later, he was handed over to the patrolling team of Rajarhat police.

According to the police, on Sunday night around 10 pm, the victim was returning home in Nayabad area from Sekharpur, along with a girl from the same neighbourhood on foot.

When they were walking down the Sekharpur-Bhojerhat road, one Ansar Molla approached them from behind riding a motorcycle.

According to the complaint submitted, the incident happened near Jhaligachi.

The victim told investigators that while passing them, Ansar hurled abusive and derogatory languages at them. He turned his motorcycle and came back a few moments later.

This time, while crossing the complainant and the other girl, Ansar pulled the scarf wrapped around the victim's neck and again used abusive language. When the victim and the girl accompanying her started screaming, Ansar tried to flee the scene.

Following the alarm raised, some of the locals tried to stop him but Ansar sped up his motorcycle and managed to gave them a slip.

In the meantime, a few locals chased him with another motorcycle and intercepted him near Bagu High School.

The police was informed immediately.

Later, they took Ansar in to their custody and arrested him following the complaint submitted.

He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Barasat, where he has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
