Cutting-edge Metro rake arrives at Kolkata Port
Kolkata: A new advanced rake for Kolkata Metro railway has arrived at the Kolkata Port on Monday morning. The rake has been bought from a private company in China. Several more such rakes will arrive soon, which will phase out the age-old non-AC rakes which are being operated at present.
According to sources, the new rake has all modern facilities including advanced security features. Inside each compartment of the rake, CCTV cameras have been installed. A 'talk back' system has also been installed,
which will allow passengers to interact with the motorman in case of an emergency.
The Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of Metro Railway Indrani Banerjee said: "The rake will be taken to the Noapara car shed first. We will inform the details after that."
Though Banerjee refused to disclose the advanced features, sources informed that the rake has been made using modern techniques which will ensure less jerk even after applying emergency brake. The connectors between the rake and third rail are being made using advanced technology as well. Sources have informed that 14 such rakes will come soon.
The rake will be moved to Noapara car shed using a diesel locomotive, as soon as possible. A trial run will be arranged after that. If everything works fine during the trial run, the rake will enter full-fledged service.
