Customers stage demo, seek deposited gold back following Asansol dacoity

Kolkata: Hundreds of customers who had deposited their gold against some loan at a non-banking financial corporation in Asansol, staged a demonstration on Tuesday outside its branch office, demanding their valuables which were looted by miscreants on last Saturday.
They put up a blockade on Burnpur Road, leading to traffic congestion in the area. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The demonstration was lifted after a meeting held between senior officials of the non-banking financial corporation and the customers.
These customers had received gold loans from this financial institution. The senior officials of this financial institution have assured the customers that there was nothing to worry about and that they would get back the gold they had deposited with the organisation.
It may be mentioned that a gang of armed miscreants had stormed into a branch office of a non-banking financial corporation and looted gold worth nearly Rs 8 crore and nearly Rs 4 lakh in hard cash.
After starting investigation, police have gathered some information in this regard. They have also gone through the CCTV footages to identify the accused.
A gang of 6-7 miscreants had entered into the office on Saturday morning when there was no security personnel outside the financial institution.
The miscreants had also beaten up some of the staff members who were late in handing over the keys of the main vault.
The armed miscreants had also threatened of dire consequences if any of the employees tried to raise an alarm or inform police. After snatching the key of the vault, the accused looted the gold.
