COVID-19 alert: Police housing complexes put under surveillance

Kolkata: In wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, Kolkata Police has decided to visit the police housing complexes and check the health conditions of the relatives of police personnel who are suffering from fever and common cold as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of COVID 19.

On Wednesday a doctor from Kolkata Police Hospital examined several police personnel during a camp inside the Alipore Body Guard Lines. While examining, the doctor informed the police personnel and their family members about how to stay safe. He also explained the steps to be taken if anyone is suffering from fever or the common cold.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Addl CP) III, Devendra Prakash Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police (Jt CP), Armed Police, Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi along with Deputy Commissioner (DC), 1st Battalion of Kolkata Armed Police and other senior officials visited the camp and took a stalk of the situation.

"We are in a process of mass awareness among the police personnel and their families residing in the police housing complexes. The advisory from the state Health department has been mentioned in the housings and barracks. Our request is not to spread any rumour and follow the guidelines from the competent authority," said Singh.

Sources informed that from now on till the situation gets normal, each day a doctor from Kolkata Police Hospital will visit one Kolkata Police housing and check the health conditions of police personnel and their family members. Singh further informed that masks and hand sanitisers have been given to traffic police personnel and have been instructed to stay safe follow the guidelines by the state Health department as far as possible.
