Couple found dead at home in Madhyamgram

Kolkata: A couple was found dead inside their house in North 24-Parganas's Madhyamgram on Monday morning.

The victims have been identified as Sambhunath Das and Sapna Das. Some locals found the front door of their house closed in the morning. Despite repeated knocks on the door, the victims did not open. Some of the them then broke open the door and entered the house. They saw the woman was lying on the bed while her husband was hanging from the ceiling fan of the room. The matter was reported to police and the victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced brought dead. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that Das might have committed suicide after killing his wife. The incident sparked tension among locals in the area following the incident. Police have collected some samples from the room for the sake of investigation. After interrogating the locals, police came to know that the victims had been living in the Sreepur area of Madhyamgram for the past few years. Police said the couple had a good relation earlier but recently had started quarrelling with each other over some issues. As the couple had no child it might have affected their relationship. Locals residents told the police they were suffering from mental depression. Police also came to know that Das used to lock up his wife inside a room quite often.

Police have started a detailed probe into the incident. They are investigating all possible angles. The preliminary investigations, however, suggest the husband had killed his wife and committed suicide. Police are waiting for the post mortem report. Some of the relatives of the victims are also being interrogated in this connection.
