Corona suspected: Murshidabad resident admitted to ID Hospital

Kolkata: Manirul Seikh, a resident of Murshidabad who arrived at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport from Saudi Arabia on Sunday morning, was admitted to Beliaghata ID Hospital as a suspected case of novel coronavirus (nCoV).

It has been learnt that Seikh used to work as a sweeper in Saudi Arabia. During thermal scan at the airport, it was detected that he had been suffering from fever. He was immediately taken to Beliaghata ID Hospital and has been kept at the isolation ward there. He will be kept under observation for 14 days and his swab sample will be sent for tests.

It may be mentioned here that the number of affected victims has gone up to 39 in the country, while in Bengal none has been tested positive so far.

The state Health department has already issued guidelines to all the state-run medical colleges and hospitals and also to the districts and sub-divisional hospitals, instructing them to follow certain parameters. The department has, however, urged people not to spread panic.

The Health department has also decided to carry out sensitisation programme among paramedical and nursing

staff members at the district and sub-divisional hospitals, on how to treat suspected patients.

It has also issued notice to all the district and sub-divisional hospitals, asking them to open isolation wards and to take all precautionary measures. Senior Health department officials are taking regular reports from the chief medical officers in the districts.

Private hospitals have also been urged to open isolation wards.

Meanwhile, a youth whose identity is yet to be confirmed by the Murshidabad district administration and was reportedly admitted to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital on Saturday soon after his return from Saudi Arabia, died at the hospital on Sunday.

His swab sample was sent for test, the report of which is expected to arrive at the hospital on Monday. His was a suspected case of nCoV.

The reason of his death, however, has not been confirmed by the Health department yet. He was also suffering from high blood sugar.
