Cops to take care of elders whose kin are stuck abroad
Kolkata: Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Anuj Sharma on Saturday informed that cops will look after the elderly living in the city whose kin are stuck abroad amid the Corona pandemic.
On Saturday afternoon, Sharma tweeted that Kolkata Police will stand beside the elderly persons living alone in the city. Those who are living abroad and worried about their elderly relatives living in the city can contact the senior citizen helpline number – 9830088884. Police will make sure that senior citizens stay healthy and safe during the present situation.
This apart, the Enforcement Branch (EB) of the Kolkata Police conducted several raids to check the price hike of vegetables and other commodities along with the price of the masks. According to EB officials, on Saturday, raids were conducted at Koley Market, Posta Burrabazar, Manicktala, Phoolbagan VIP Market, Mechua Fruit Market, Gariahat, Lake Market and few others. During the raids, members or secretaries of the market committees and vendors were instructed not to increase the prices of commodities unreasonably.
Also, raids were conducted at multiple shops in Behala and Kidderpore to find out about the price of the masks. Recently, it was found that several shop owners were selling masks at a high price. They have been warned and informed that their activities may attract penal action.
In a separate move by the state police, truck drivers and dhaba owners beside the National and State Highways have been sensitised about hygiene. Additional Director General (ADG), Traffic, Vivek Sahay on Saturday informed through social media that the district traffic units have been asked to sensitise the truck drivers and insist the dhaba owners to provide adequate soap and water to clean their hands.
