Cops organise contests for students in 2 districts
Kolkata: At a time when the state administration is working hard to ensure that people stay at home during the lockdown period to combat the spread of COVID-19, two district polices have taken an innovative step to keep the students engaged at home.
The students have been asked to come up with paintings, models, songs or writings and share their work through social media. The police will award the good works in a bid to provide encouragement.
"The lockdown in the state has been extended till April 30 and educational institutions will remain closed till June 10. This is our own method to keep the students engaged while they remain confined in their respective homes," said a senior official of Birbhum District Police.
The district police have invited drawings, writings and songs based on how a student is visualising the present situation in the country amidst the lockdown. The works should be shared in the inbox of the Facebook page of Birbhum District Police or the WhatsApp number 8391888257. The police will share the good works through its Facebook page so that they can be appreciated by people from all parts of the country.
"We will hand over mementos and a certificate of appreciation to the students who will be penning the best works," the official added.
The Paschim Medinipur District Police, meanwhile, has also arranged online competition of drawing and preparation of models. The drawing competition is for students up to class VIII, while the model contest is for those from classes IX to XII.
The theme for the drawing competition is either Police Bandhu or Social Awareness, while the theme for the model contest is 'Best out of Waste'. The work should be done strictly from home.
Students have to register by calling on a phone number mentioned in the Facebook page of the district police from Sunday to April 18. The picture can be sent through WhatsApp by April 20, while the models will be collected from the respective homes. There are attractive cash prizes in both the categories and all the details of the contest have been uploaded on the Facebook page of Paschim Medinipur District Police.
