Cops nab 7 members of B'deshi theft gang

Kolkata: Seven members of a Bangladeshi gang were arrested on Monday from Italgacha area near Kolkata Airport in connection with the theft that took place at under-construction Metro sites. One of their close aides was also arrested from Basirhat in North 24-Parganas.

Acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid and arrested them from the rented house near the airport where they had been staying for the past one year.

They had entered the country through the porous border and started there. Their main intention was to steal valuables from closed factories.

Police came to know that they had stolen valuables from many closed factories in and around Kolkata.

Later, they had targetted the under-construction metro station sites from where they stole building materials.

The police had earlier arrested one Raja Jaiswal in this connection.

He used to collect information about the places from where they could steal valuables. Subsequently, members of the gang used to raid the places and take away valuables in trucks.

The Bidhannagar Police had recovered some of the building materials that they had stolen from a businessman at Manicktala.

Sources said the police had come to know about Raja after recovering the stolen goods and conducting a raid at Hatiara in North 24-Parganas.
